Lara Markthaler - Alpine Skiracer

About

I grew up in Germany and moved 2015 to Whistler/Canada. My dad always thought me skiing and mountain biking. In Whistler I started racing in both sports and it started out pretty good. My biggest successes in Downhill Mountain Biking was 6 Gold Medals at Red Bull Crankworx in Whistler. In Alpine Ski Racing I won several ski races and the overall at Tyee Cup in Vancouver and Nancy Green Cup in Sun Peeks.
2015 I had to make a big decision: Do I want to become a Pro in Downhill Mountain Biking or Alpine Ski Racing...it finally was Ski Racing.

This was a huge decision for my family, it became a family project.
My family supports my dream 100% and we moved again back to Europe to the heartbeat of Alpine Ski Racing to the Alps. For the first 2 years I was training in Italy and now for the season 2021/2022 we are in Austria.
What I am doing when I am not Ski Racing? Good Question! Not hard to guess that I am an outdoor girl in my "free time" as well.
My additional sports for the summer are Kitesurfing and Downhill Moutainbiking. I live at the bike park in Austria and for Kite Surfing we go in summer to the Italian coast. Another passion is martial arts which is also my fitness training mainly in summer, its a lot of fun!

Aims & Goals

I am now racing the Austrian race series with very strong competition…thats why we are here!
I made several Podiums at Austrian U16 “Bezirkscup” and “Landescup” incl. a first place in Slalom and I made a 10th place in my first international Race “Pokal Loka” in Slovenia with 30 nations. I also became “Leogang Champion”, which is my home village.

For the next year I plan to race again in the U16 Austrian race series, because it’s really tough as Austria is one of the leading ski nations. For the next season my plan is to be top 5 in Austria and to qualify for the international youth races. My big long term goals are Youth world championships, 2024 youth Olympics and 2026 Olympics in Cortina/Italy.

I love alpine ski racing, training is very tough with about 180 days on snow plus massive fitness blocks in summer.
But there is only one thing better than speed…more speed!
